Unveiling the Beauty of Manassas Battlefield Park

Nestled amidst Virginia’s picturesque landscapes, Manassas Battlefield Park stands as a testament to history while offering a serene ambiance for capturing stunning maternity photos. Here, lush greenery {during the right season}, rolling hills, and historic monuments serve as the perfect canvas for your maternity shoot, blending the beauty of nature with the significance of the past.

Intro to this gorgeous momma-to-be

Vicky, the delightful soul she is, isn’t just an incredible wedding photographer; she’s family—a cousin who’s part of the inner circle. Memories of babysitting her and her sibling while my own toddlers played, flash in my mind. 

One evening back in March (I think) before our Cohort class, we strolled into our favorite taco joint, and in that casual moment of offering her a sip of my Margherita, her gentle decline melted my heart, making me rush to envelop her in a hug.

She was expecting her first baby!

It’s not lost on me that her options for photographers are vast, yet she placed her trust in me for her maternity session, an honor I hold close to my heart. Being family didn’t seal the deal; it was the recurring choice she made to come back to me for her photography needs (we even did a small branding session—more on that in a future blog).

Though our schedules clashed, we missed capturing her gender reveal, but the desire to immortalize her growing belly pushed us to connect.

Despite envisioning something extremely grand for her session, scheduling conflicts and health concerns led us to a quick yet meaningful rendezvous to capture her burgeoning bump. The weather, a surprisingly perfect ally, blessed us with a serene canvas.

Amidst snapping those priceless moments of Vicky’s glowing silhouette, her hubby—primarily engrossed in a soccer game—graciously paused to partake in the frame, never failing to oblige.

Manassas Battlefield Park

Can you take photos at Manassas Battlefield Park?  

We decided the best place would be to capture her maternity session at the Manassas Battlefield Park in Virginia.  This was the only location we opted for as it has several places to shoot and is perfect for a golden hour session.  This park is about 49 miles from Winchester, VA, and 27 from Leesburg, Va to give you an idea.  

The park is kid and pet-friendly, if you bring your furry kids please keep them on a leash at all times for their safety and other patrons…  And finally to answer the question “Can you take photos at Manassas Battlefield Park, yes you can! At the time of writing this the park doesn’t require a permit for photography, however, one thing to keep in mind is that it closes promptly at dusk.  

I’m a sucker for a good sunset {also known as the golden hour} session.  While our session was held in November please keep in mind that the weather in VA has a mind of its own.  {I remember in 2018 when we got married it went from high 70’s to low 30’s within 24 hours.}  

While we do walk around and it’s mostly flat it is not a bad idea to pack slippers or super comfy shoes to walk in and then change once we start capturing the moment.  This park is the perfect place to set up an evening dinner/picnic in the dedicated food spots.

Tips for a Successful Maternity Photoshoot

1. Timing Is Key: Opt for early morning or late afternoon sessions to capture the soft, golden light that adds a magical touch to your photos.
2. Comfort Is Crucial: Wear clothing that makes you feel comfortable and confident, accentuating your beautiful baby bump while reflecting your personal style.

Bring Props and Personal Touches: Incorporate props like baby shoes, ultrasound images, or sentimental items to add a personalized touch to your photos.
